The Mysterious Yuki-Onna
For this class assignment, we designed a label for a specific beverage. The company Occult wanted an illustrated label of a female character, specifically something inspired by mythology, tarot cards, and mystic imagery. The desired color palette was hues of purple, blue, and pink. To pair with this sapphire gin, I chose the spirit of the Yuki-Onna which translates to “Snow Women” in English.

 

She is depicted with snow-white skin and light blue hair wearing a low cut kimono. Since her appearance is so unique and mysterious, she pairs well with the vibrant blue hue of the liquor which also has a look of tantalizing beauty. To keep with a mystic aesthetic, her hair is weaving and surrounding her in an almost unnatural way. Adding to her mystery are her horns and red markings on the forehead. The typeface paired with the illustration is “Black-Bold“, which gives the overall design a vintage aura with it’s thick and thin strokes.
